A Tradition of Giving

On January 5, 1981, the Friendship Fund received its first gift from Texas Beta Hattie Stokes Wootters. With that first gift, Hattie started a tradition of giving to the Friendship Fund which she continued for 20 years until her death in 1999. Included with Hattie's last gift to the Friendship Fund was a note that read:

"At the age of 97, I look back with pride and love to Pi Phi friends who have meant so much to me through the years."

What is the Friendship Fund anyway?

The Friendship Fund is the Foundation’s largest fundraising program.  Conducted annually, this fund is comprised of unrestricted gifts.

Why are unrestricted gifts so important to success of the Foundation?

Unrestricted gifts allow for greater flexibility, which ensures that all our mission critical areas receive adequate financial support.

How is the Friendship Fund Used?

Giving unrestricted gifts to the Friendship Fund means that the Foundation is able to:

• Award MORE Scholarships
• Give MORE Emma Harper Turner Grants
• Fund MORE Fraternity Initiatives such as:
  • Leadership Training
  • Wellness & Safety Programs
  • Life Skills Development
• Fund MORE Fraternity Literacy Endeavors
